Ingegerd Råman Designs New Ceramic Pot for Vandalorum with Nittsjö Keramik

Vandalorum, the design and craft museum in Värnamo, has presented a new ceramic pot designed by Ingegerd Råman.

The piece has been produced in collaboration with Nittsjö Keramik, a stoneware manufacturer based in Rättvik, Dalarna.

The pot is available exclusively through Vandalorum’s shop and webshop.

Räman’s statement at the presentation — ”Ett bra föremål blir aldrig gammalt” (”A good object never grows old”) — reflects a design philosophy she has maintained across a career spanning more than five decades. Working from studios in Skåne and on Skeppsholmen in Stockholm, Råman has consistently prioritised simplicity, function, and material honesty in her work.

Born in Stockholm in 1943, Råman studied under Carl Malmsten at Capellagården on Öland, at Konstfack in Stockholm, and at the Istituto Statale d’Arte per la Ceramica in Faenza, Italy. She established her first ceramics studio in Skåne, and her parallel career in glass began at Johansfors glassworks. She later served as lead designer at Skruf and spent thirteen years at Orrefors, where she became one of the company’s most influential designers.

Her work is held in the collections of Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg. The Swedish government awarded her the title of Professor; she also holds the Prince Eugen Medal.

Nittsjö Keramik, founded in Rättvik in Dalarna, has produced Swedish stoneware since the nineteenth century. The company is one of Sweden’s few remaining active ceramic factories with roots in a regional craft tradition.
